The Musical Theater Center is a unique school where all mediums of musical theater are taught in one facility. Each member of our faculty has a fine arts degree in the medium that they teach and a tremendous passion for young performers. With instructors who specialize in all forms of dance from ballet to jazz to tap, as well as professional actors with specialties in theater for youth, audition coaching and character development, and finally our vocal teachers with advanced degrees in pedagogy, composition and choral performance; each student at the school is exposed to a team of professionals that will offer a truly diverse education in preparing them as young performers.
MTC’s facilities, located in Mount Pleasant at Seaside Farms, house three state of the art performance studios making up xxxx square feet. Two dance studios boast O’mara sprung floors for the safest surface environment on which to train dancers. Our third rehearsal studio, also doubles as a black box theater which seats 120+ for workshop performances and Company of Kids productions.
In addition to our exceptional faculty, young performers are also taught in a supportive environment. These performing arts have a tremendous power to bring out amazing things in every performer who studies with us. We often see improved self esteem, stage presence, confidence in public speaking, and greater self-discipline just to name a few. In a field that is truly competitive, we teach the students how to work hard towards their individual goals while promoting a team environment, one in which they support each other and celebrate in each other’s successes.
Our curriculum offers a variety of options for study. MTC offers once a week introductory classes in musical theater or a specialty medium; dance, acting or voice. We also teach 8-week Actor’s Workshops offering students an opportunity to study a play and perform on our black box stage. For those that are interested in studying all that the conservatory has to offer, we offer several levels of Performance Troupes from kindergarten through high school. Conservatory students study in 2 – 6 classes per week based on age and level. These troupes perform at community events as well as full length productions in a theater. Summer Camps, Private Coaching and Audition Prep are also offered.
